Care for a swim in a natural aquarium?

Yes, it’s true. If you head over to the Isle of Pines you can board one of the most famous cruise tours that will take you to the Piscine Naturelle. In this underwater pool, you will encounter a plethora of colorful fish and some impressive giant clams.

Visit the Amadee Lighthouse

After being built in Paris, in 1862 a group of French engineers erected this 56 meters high lighthouse on a tiny island close to Noumea harbor. Named Amadee Lighthouse, it offers a spectacular view of the emerald green lagoon and the blue ocean.

Noumea Lagoons Aquarium

You cannot miss Grand Terre since it is the biggest island of New Caledonia, and also the hoe of its capital, Noumea. It is surrounded by the largest lagoon in the world, and a trip into the Noumea Lagoons Aquarium can be a perfect glimpse into the natural world of the island. You can take a sneak peek into the life of its nocturnal creatures, or if you are lucky enough you can see a recovered animal being set free into the wild.

Hike to Ouen Toro

The most picturesque hike you will ever experience. Situated on the southeastern part of Anse Vata, your end destination of this hike offers a one-of-a-kind view of the lagoon.  You don’t have to be in top form to conquer this trail. There are several trails of different difficulty, so no matter what age or level of fitness you are, you can explore this corner of New Caledonia without breaking a sweat.

Anse Vata Beach

Anse Vata Bay boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the tourists know it. So every New Caledonia visitor knows that there should be at least one day of doing absolutely nothing at the Anse Vata Beach. Well, if you are the type of person who has to do SOMETHING, you can always surf, windsurf, make a picnic, or take a scenic walk.

Bougna Time

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to pamper your palate with a traditional Kanak dish – Bougna. The unique dish is made from lobster, fish, chicken, vegetables, and finally wrapped in a banana leaf. After they are “packed” they are put into an earth oven and then cooked over hot rocks.
